What the press would say:

I have to tell you, “The Story of St. Nicholas” is a very powerful and very human motion picture. Every single scene was captivating, moving and inspiring. You see all of the wonderful things Nicholas do like when he makes a boy without a leg feel happy or when he helps an old man with no money or when he defends a young woman who miscarried. All of these scenes of the journey were very simple and very powerful. They were so marvelous and miraculous that you’ll drop one or two tears of emotion. Then you see scenes were soldiers torture Nicholas in prison. These scenes will captivate you and will make you feel very depressed and sad. You’ll begin to cry as you see how they treat such an innocent and wonderful person. When he finally gets released, you’ll feel a very big emotion and at the end, when you see how Nicholas tells his last words you will begin to cry and reflect about life.

This powerful epic would never create such sensations if it weren’t for the glorious team behind them. Beautiful and powerful dialogues are brought to life in an astonishing screenplay by James Schamus as well as a very unique cinematography from the amazing Christopher Doyle that gave a great sensation of the time and the location. John Williams’ score was one never heard before. It gives a certain power and delight to the film. Tom Hanks plays the role of a lifetime as the wonderful Bishop Nicholas. Forget “Philadelphia” and “Forrest Gump” because he gives his best performance ever in this epic and intense role. You will feel a big power from his wonderful portrayal. From the supporting cast, Joaquin Phoenix is the showstealer as the evil emperor who practically destroys Nicholas with all of the tortures he made his soldiers do. The directing was a monumental triumph in all of the word. Even if surprising and unexpected, Steven Spielberg gave a great directing with an unimaginable power. He gave to the film the tone it needed and delivered it in the most brilliant and wonderful way. This unforgettable experience is without any single doubt at all, the best film of the year.
